Peyona is a drug used for the treatment of primary apnea in (premature) newborns. An apnea in a newborn is a breathing pause of more than 20 seconds. Peyona contains caffeine. Caffeine stimulates the respiratory center in the brain and promotes regular breathing until the brain of the child can drive this independently.
